How picks are made

The goal

One recommendation per riding, for the candidate with the best chance of defeating the NDP candidate there. We are not judging who would make the best MLA. Whether to vote strategically at all is your call. This site does the arithmetic and shows its work.

Picks come from the Conservative, OneBC and CentreBC parties, or from independents. This guide never recommends a BC Green candidate. In our judgement the Greens have voted with the NDP government on the matters this site cares about, so a Green vote is not a vote against the NDP. Green candidates still appear on riding pages, since they are on the ballot.

What we weigh

The 2024 result in the riding, from official Elections BC data, shown on every riding page. It is a starting point only, because the parties on the ballot have changed since.
Incumbency and candidate strength. A sitting MLA or a well-known local challenger changes the math. Claims about candidates always carry a source link.
Published riding-level projections and polling. We cite projections where they inform a pick, and we link to them instead of republishing their numbers.

Confidence levels

High: the numbers point one way.
Medium: a clear leader, with real uncertainty.
Low: a judgement call, flagged as one.
No clear pick: the field is too unsettled to call, and we say so rather than guess.

Known limitations

2024 results predate the current party field; new parties have no riding-level track record.
Postal code lookups use approximate centroids (GeoNames, CC BY 4.0) and can be wrong near riding boundaries. The site flags those cases and links to Elections BC's official district finder.
Picks reflect what we knew at their “last reviewed” date, and campaigns move.
